Homepage display issues with IE8

I am having a few small display issues with my homepage when IE8 is used. Please take a look... bradoliver.smugmug.com

First issue... I have an empty gray bar that appears between the Slideshow box and Gallery Category boxes.

The second is that there is a blank space in the first row of categories in the gallery category box. In other words, there is a blank space in position 1 (top-left) where you would expect to see the first category. Just to be clear, it's not that there is a category missing, but rather the category thumbnails start at position 2 (top-right) rather than position 1.

I have viewed the site from two different PCs (both running IE8) and the results are the same. In Firefox, the homepage displays perfectly (no gray bar, no blank category postion).

Any ideas? Thanks!

I am at my office where we use IE6 (don't get me started) and I have neither of these problems.

    Odd.

I'll post a screen shot later (when I have access to IE8).

I should have said so in my first post, but I was logged out. This problem shows itself for visitors (or me when I am logged out).

    Thanks.

OK, I had somebody else here in my office who is running IE7 take a screen shot for me. So apparently I am having these issues in IE7 and 8, but 6 is OK.

    Please excuse the rough annotations.

Old thread I know, but I finally figured out what was causing the problem... I was simply missing a ">" in my custom header.

The devil is in the details!
