SmugMug and Facebook help please

If these features are available, can you please tell me? And if not, can I suggest them to be made available?

Integration with Facebook is very important to me, and I am frustrated at the apparent lack of options.

I see that Facebook Connect allows sites to choose to allow users to integrate with Facebook. Has this or can this be implemented with SmugMug?

I am aware that there seems to be limited Facebook options when you "Share" from SmugMug. But you can not tag and it only shows on your own wall.

I would like to know if there is a way to fully integrate and do things such as tag people in your SmugMug photos so it posts to their Facebook wall. It could show the photo on their page and link them to the SmugMug gallery containing the photo.

Also, in the meantime, I would like to be able to post people's photos on their facebook wall and have at least a thumbnail of their photo appear on their wall. As of now those options are also limited. I can post the direct link to their exact photo, but that will not link to the gallery - only the one photo. I can share the gallery link on their page; however then the thumbnail is limited to the first group of photos in that gallery. I would like to be able to thumbnail the photo I choose.

Or is it possible to generate a link on my own similar to the one generated by the internal SmugMug Facebook option? But a link that I can share on someone else's page other than my own?

What kind of integration are you looking for? We are constantly evaluating ways that we can integrate, and love feedback from users of both services.

Tagging users is actively in development. We don't comment on release dates, but we are actively working on it, and you should see it in the not too-distant future. This will also notify the tagged user that there is a new photo of them.

The Facebook API doesn't let us post to another user's wall, only the wall of the current user--otherwise people could post anything anywhere.

Well, you could just use the 'Get a Link' feature in the share menu, or are you looking for something beyond this?

I like what 944 has done with Facebook Connect as outlined here:
    http://www.944.com/blog/facebook-connects-with-944-to-offer-round-trip-photo-tagging/

Tagging users is actively in development. We don't comment on release dates, but we are actively working on it, and you should see it in the not too-distant future. This will also notify the tagged user that there is a new photo of them

    Yay!

Well, you could just use the 'Get a Link' feature in the share menu, or are you looking for something beyond this?

The problem with 'Get a Link' is that it will only link to the individual photo with no easy way to navigate to the full gallery/site.

I would like to be able to either post a photo or thumbnail of my choice on another user's page. I could do this manually if we were given some sort of link generator that supplies links similar to those generated by the Facebook API. Is something like this possible now while I eagerly await the ability to tag on Facebook within SmugMug?

Facebook Fan Pages - No thumbnails
Tagging along with a similar issue- please forgive the intrusion, but seems related :)

Facebook is a huge promotion tool of course, so I'd like to use it to the fullest...

My issue is that I'd like to post a link to a photo on my photography fan page (of which I'm an admin)... I know I can currently:

    1) Post a link on the fan page wall of the gallery. Problem: No thumbnail- which is huge if you want people to click.

    2) Post a link of the image. Problem: thumbnail, but the link only takes you to a window with the image only. I want people to see the gallery and the caption.

    3) Share using the "share on facebook" functionality. Problem: Does EXACTLY what I want on MY wall, but not my photography fan page wall where I want it.

    Sigh.

Any ideas? If Facebook allowed me to manually add thumbnails that would work, but so far no dice. Would it be possible for Smug Mug to allow Facebook to "see" the thumbnails of the first few images of a gallery when I give it the "gallery link"?

I have no idea how fb does things as I'm not on it, but does it have the capability like in forums for a keyword to link to something else? For example, like how the code under 'Share-->Get A Link-->Embed' works?

Actually just figured out how to do what I want! If your gallery is RIGHT_CLICK_PROCTECTED, Facebook can't see the gallery thumbnails... so the fix is dead simple:

    Go to your gallery
Copy the URL from your browser bar
Turn off RIGHT-CLICK protection in your gallery settings
Paste the Link into Facebook - BINGO - Thumbnails!
Return the the gallery and re-enable RIGHT-CLICK protection

We have a fix going out for this very soon that should hopefully seed the facebook thumbnail bot with the featured gallery thumbnail. If there is no featured photo, it will use a random one. It should all work w/o you having to change gallery style. At this time they only let you specify one image to seed with, so after that 1 image we'll have to see what the bot picks up.

Is there a way to make it so we can select which thumbnail is shown?

Reasoning is that I would like to change the thumbnail depending on whose page I am sharing on - I would like to be able to have the thumbnail be the picture of the person whose page I am on.

This is what I am looking for as well. Has there been any more work with this? "Being social" on facebook doesn't work for me, so I only have the first two options and neither is what I want or professional. Really need to be able to post the link and choose the thumbnail I want. I know it can be done as when you post a link from a standard web page on facebook, you get the option of cycling thru multiple images associated with the page.

There used to be a near-perfect app in FB called SimpleMug. It's no longer working but it did just what I wanted. You upload to SmugMug and SimpleMug would grab your latest addition and post to FB. Effortless! Any chance of resurrecting it?

I bet there's a way to use rss feeds and an app that uses that to post to fb.

I have done this lots of different ways...

Use the "Notes" app in your fan page with the "recent galleries" feed

There are also other RSS apps that will do this

    My current method:

Run your feed through twitterfeed and set up facebook/twitter/etc there

Surely there's someway to do this within Smugmug?
I even tried moving all the photos but one from my gallery, then attaching the link in facebook....

no dice- facebook remembered an old thumbnail from the gallery :(

any other ideas of how to hack this tech gods?

Really would rather not use a feedapp.... I just want to post a single image a week to my fan page with the right thumbnail....

Weird; it no longer automatically feeds for me - and sometimes will add once I click 'manually check for new uploads' but still sometimes doesn't.

Ugh, what happened with posting a link on facebook? You used to be able to at least cycle through the first few photos in the gallery to choose the thumbnail. Now it only gives a choice of one thumbnail photo that appears to be totally random. :(

Is there a way to revert back to having a few photos to choose from and/or at least the featured photo in the gallery? This is very frustrating as this option had become worse instead of better.

I am asking about the link that is generated to be able to post on other people's pages other than your own. There is only one thumbnail generated and it appears to be totally random.

    I encounter the same problem.

When I post a link of a specific photo on my Facebook photography page (copy-paste the URL) I don't get the thumbnail of the photo I want to feature anymore, instead there is a random photo from the gallery showing. However, when someone clicks the link or the wrong (random) thumbnail on my facebook photography page, the visitor is redirected to the correct photo on my smugmug gallery. Strange!

When I today updated my facebook fan page with another link of photo uploads, I opted to not show a thumbnail to avoid further confusion. However, I really want that the thumbnail of the photo I want to show appears on my facebook photography page as it did in the past. Not sure how come this seems to be broken...

    My facebook photography page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Luc-De-Jaeger-Photography/119707215205
so you can see for yourself what I mean.

(To be perfectly clear it's not about posting to my own personal facebook page but about my photography page).

    Temporary Solution
Hi all, I think I have found a temporary solution for the Facebook posting a SmugMug link problem. I registered to post this as it got me so frustrated ne_nau.gif

Anyway. What I did was hide all the photos in your gallery except the one you wish to post to Facebook, and then paste the link in your post. That way Facebook can only access that one and only photo clap.gif. After posting the link simply unhide the rest of your photos.

    Hope this helped :D

You're welcome. I'm sorry to say that I tried the tip I said again today but it didn't seem to work. Truly bizarre. I cleared saved history/cookies etc. Tried Firefox and IE as well besides the usual Chrome. Nothing. What got it working in the end was by using a URL shortener like for example bit.ly which are frequently used on sites such as Twitter. I hope this tip keeps working now headscratch.gif and that the issue will be resolved.

    Cheers,
