I haven't shot Lo-fi since back in the 70's but here is just a couple that I did to get myself going on this challenge. Used some plastic wrap with a hole in the middle over the lens and these are SOOC with no cropping (not that they need it). I know I need to get even more creative but hey its a start!! CC is always appreciated.

Edit: 1 and 2 removed cause they are out of the running.

EDIT:...1 more added. This time using my PnS Nikon coolpix and a long beer glass.

3. A disturbance in this realm...

...really if you knew this dog...she is quite a disturbance with her bark!

EDIT 2: I have played with my P n S until it broke so now getting creative with my usual camera. You can see the images that I took with the PnS at THIS LINK if you wish. The images below were used with my D300 and a high iso for noise. #4 and 5 were taken through an old Yashica viewfinder and the rest of the shots had sepia toning set on the camera plus a piece of batting that has been thinned out some over the lens. Let me know what you think!

4. SOOC for reals...

I don't know, they still look a little high-fi and a little sharp to me. I would say that the quality of the pictures is still to high. But, that is just me.

lo fi doesn't necessarily mean out of focus. Back in the day I never could afford filters and such but used 'other means' or 'lo fi' to get the softening of images such as my first two examples. No filters or special lenses or in camera editing used. But I agree that they are not stong enough for this challenge.

Although the term LO- FI is often used as a term for poor quality SOUND. the LO part used here is obviously for the second part of the definition.

I wasn't saying that it should be out of focus, it just wasn't enough of that effect for me.

Now... I love the one of the dog. clap.gif

Also like the dog. I think the effect, "rough, raw" per your def isn't strong enough in the other two.

Me something (4, 5? 6?). The dog is definitely continuing to catch my eye.

Very Nice! I love the effect that I see on all the images. Areas of brightness, with varying levels of diffused light and sharpness.
If I had to choose, my personal preference would be the composition of #6. It's seemingly less 'neat' in the arrangement, if that makes any sense.
I also LOVE the concept of your shooting thru the vf of the Yashika. I like that concept. It doesn't fit for this challenge....but it looks cool!

**and the dog made me laugh. Nice!

Well thank you all for your input. Although I really like each of these for their own merits...I have decided the dog image has the most personality and eye catching looks.

I do believe however, that I might play with the concept of the batting and other still life objects for prints to put on a recently vacant room in my house!thumb.gif

    JAG,
If I read the rules correctly, editing after the shutter release (including watermarks) is not allowed. I do like them all though.

yes that is correct Dave. These were added to my personal album on smugmug and the watermark goes on automatically and doesn't change the exif. The image I entered to the challenge does not have my watermark.

great shots. hard to pick a favorite, but i like #4 the most, with the concept, composition, color. it reeks of faded elegance. it holds my interest longer, inviting me to study it more. the dog is a close second... truly very cute... but what isn't cute after a few pints? :D
