    An observation
I'm not even close to being a professional, but also enjoy sports photography. My first impression is that the background seemed to have more "brightness" than the players face.
From past forum discussions. most of the advanced photographers always mention the "face" as the focal point.

the pic are clear, just seem a bit off in the brighness from background to player?

    Good luck..

Here are some photos I took last night. I have done post editing with Lightroom 3 but feel like the photos are just quite not "there". I am looking to make these photos marketable to parents and am looking for some input on what adjustments/ touches/ modifications/ etc. should be made to make them better.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

From what I can tell, one of the main issues is the lighting. They are all backlit and it makes the colors look drab. I think you have the compositions down and the timing as well. IMHO # 1 may have worked better from a lighting point of view if he were shot from the side rather than from the front. Positioning vs the sun is critical for these type of shots, since no flash can be used.

No EXIF here but you have to bump the EV to + value and ignore the backgrounds...
