I don't know if I've got the right art terminology here, but the effect I got today reminds me of Impressionist painters, like Monet. (I've probably got this all wrong :dunno )

Picture of the United First Parish Church in Quincy MA, completed in 1828, built of granite donated by (President) John Adams, who is also buried inside.

I got this effect by photographing the reflection in a polished granite sphere across the street.

Try moving about 10+ feet back from the screen and looking at it.

What do you think?

    Nice- in the next room
Maybe more like pointillism? It looks really good when I back up into the next room, if you can get everyone to back up that far from their computer screens. It's like a high pass-low pass optical illusion.

I'm not sure if the grains are not a little too prominent, vs. the image itself...

I like the colors in this shot and the texture doesn't bother me...I can still pick out the image within the texture. This was a reflection on granite? That's a cool idea...

Thanks for the kind words! I've tried to make use of that big hunk of granite several times before, but it just didn't work out. The surface is smooth and reflective, but the grain of the stone is very coarse. Finally a topic where that is a plus! :D
