Would love some constructive criticism here. This is a tough challenge for me.

Or does this work better using the Smugmug cropping tool?

I like the cropped one better! I like the effect you used..what makes the rings I see in the background?

It's shot with a macro lens looking through the viewfinder of an old TLR camera. The rings are a part of the viewfinder.

I'm thinking the cropped one works better too. Wish I could square crop it using the smugmug tool.

Tried to square crop my pic in the gallery and it nearly cut off the head of my subject and ended up not being very square in the end. I actually like your pic not square...

I prefer the uncropped actually. I think that it looks better and it follows the rule of thirds too.

UNCROPPED!! I thought this looked like it was a picture taken through a camera viewfinder.. You should try different subjects!

OK. I submitted it. I tried to redo it tonight, with forsythia in a small red vase, with a celery root, a big fat tomato, and I could not reproduce the effect. So, there you go. Thanks for the encouragement.

You can, just choose 1x1 ratio using the Crop ratio tool, located in the bottom left of the window.:D
