Not sure what these little green guys are called, but they sure enjoyed the cherry blossoms on Higashiyama. Love the green color of their feathers. C&C always welcome!

Cheers

Not sure what your country's birders would call them, but down here in Australia they are known as 'Silvereye'. Lovely little birds and enjoying those wonderful blossoms.

Silvereye you say, thanks for the info. I have no idea what they are called in Japanese, but I sure like them =)

They are called Uguisu in Japan. How long have you been in Kyoto?

Actually, my Japanese wife just told me they are "mejiro", which mean "white eyes" because of the white circles around the eye. I have been living in Kyoto about 6 years now. Good place to be.

Right you are. The mejiro are a sub family of uguisu.

Are you in Kyoto city? My wife is from Kyoto. Great place for birding.

Have you got hooked into the tonbi (black kites) on the kamogawa yet? They are awesome to shoot.

I have been attacked by them a couple times, but no shootings as of yet. Might have to try that when we get some better weather, thanks.
