Problems with stalling Slideshow resolved. Thought I'd share.

Over the past several months I have experienced problems with slide-shows in all my albums. Often the slide-show would stall or freeze on an image without advancing. Long intermittent hesitations in the slide-show advancing were also a problem. Often the slide-show would have to be stopped by hitting escape.

I tested a number of computers at different locations and the problem would exist on some computers, and not on others. Although I have high speed internet connection, I did take into consideration that the other computers, at different locations, where using different internet providers. So there was the possibility that the problem could be attributed to a poor internet connection.

On all systems I made sure I had the latest Flash updates.

However, just recently I found a solution online by tripping over an article where someone had problems with swf files stalling etc.

I tried the solution and it worked. My slide-shows have been running smoothly without hesitation. Even on a 22 inch monitor.

The culprit was that the Flash setting on a couple of my computers was set to "enable hardware acceleration".

Right clicking on a slide-show, then selecting Settings, I disabled the feature.

End of problem.

It turns out that some systems, as good as they might be, may still cause the Flash Player problems when trying to access hardware acceleration. This article at Adobe explains the feature.

Hope this helps anyone who may have similar slide-show issues.

Unless Adobe sets the default to disable only you have solved the
problem, none of your visitors. Maybe there is something that can be
added in js to set this? Anyone have an idea?

Any more info on this? I have a slideshow on my homepage: www.dclphoto.com
I have been informed that others see a hestitation and no image as it loads. Another Dgrinner mentioned have to create an image that stated "loading" to fill in the blank hesitation until the slideshow started. Just to keep the viewer from wondering whats going on. Any ideas on how I could do this? Any other solutions?

It's good to set a splash image - which will quickly load while the slideshow is loading. Click the "settings" link and do that.

I wondered what Splash URL meant! OK, so I type "Loading" in ther Splash URL, and what I understand is that viewers will see that word until the slideshow starts? I dont see it when I open my slideshow, but Im not getting a lag or hesitation that I hear others see when they visit my site.

In the Splash URL field can add the link to a photo that will be displayed while the slideshow loads. You cannot enter text. It needs to be a direct link to a photo like this photo link.
