I know it's hard to believe: I received that lens earlier this week, and no posts?
Well, sorry, I really didn't have a chance :dunno
But tomorrow there is a shoot I'm hoping to use it for real, so I decided to make sure the AF and the focusing in general is OK.
Well, guess what: it's spot on! :ivar

Below are two 100% crops, taken from two different distances at f/2.8. I'm totally satisfied with the position of the focal plane and the DOF.

#1: Canon EOS 5DMkII Canon EF 70-200L/2.8MkII IS USM<br>ISO 100, f/2.8, A-priority, hand held, ~4yards/meters

Yes I did. Sold it couple months ago.
At this point I don't have enough experience with the new one to tell how much different they are. Feels more solid, but that simply may be "new toy" effect. Zoom/focus rings feel different. And ad for promised extra stop on IS - I didn't have a chance to test that yet.

What about optically? Those samples above look like they were done with a macro lens.

Thus far I like it. But, again, didn't have many chances to use it.
As for the macro look - those are 100% crops, i.e. very small portions of the whole image. Combined with a rather shallow DOF it may bring that effect...
