Here are a few images of the Wood Ducks as they are back in our neck of the woods again.

Thank you for your comments on this series. I have heard that they can become skiddish, but we don't seem to have that problem in my area, and I agree the colours on these ducks are just amazing.

Bruce, thanks for your comments and I'm sure in good time you will be able to get your decent shot of these ducks.

Thanks Sherry for the nice comments on these images, and to bad that you don't see them all that much as they are one of the nicest ducks. I'm glad that you enjoyed the images and again thanks.

Thanks very much Lano, and glad that you enjoyed seeing these images. I took these with the Nikon D300S and the 500mm lens. I do have both cameras and got the D700 first and went down to Floida with it. Being a full sensor for birding is OK, but you loose the extra reach with this camera because of the full sensor. I think this is great camera, faster focusing than the D300S for sure, and a few other things as well. You can use this for nature, but if you need to get closer to the subject, than the D300 is the camera with the 1.5 factor for the extra reach and that is why I bought this camera for birding and nature.
So you really need to decide on what you do most of your photography with, and people, landscapes, weddings etc the D700 would fit in perfect. If you spend most of your time with nature shooting the D300 might be the best way to go here. Just my 2 cents worth.
Hope that this help in some way for you.

Thanks Rocky, glad that you liked that image, I think a lot of us have tons of images of wood ducks and we keep on going back for more and more shots of them.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
Thanks Harry for your comments.

Woodies wait till I creep into range and then mock me as they fly off.:D

Thanks Ric, and here we don't have an issue with them here taking flight, in fact they are all 15 to 20 feet away, and around 12 or so in this pond.
I have heard this many times about trying to get close and when you do they take off, that is to bad. The one thing to try is take un-salted peanuts with you and through some in the water and they will dive for them if it's not to deep and they just may stay around. It does work.

Thanks Dan, and I agree such a nice duck to photograph.
