I had the opportunity to lead a workshop with Marc Muench at Death Valley this week. We had a great group and we really found some awesome light and subjects!

First morning, we shot up the Dunes just outside of Stovepipe Wells:

later, when the light was much stronger:

During the heat of the midday we found flowers to shoot:

Of course we hit The Racetrack (road is MUCH improved and the trip is about an hour quicker this year vs. last year):

(Canon 5D Mark II with Canon 24-105)

On the last morning we went back to the dunes and we were rewarded with some cloud cooperation as the sun rose. It was truly a jaw-dropping beautiful sunrise to watch and be part of:

I've got more to post, maybe later this week :D

Thanks for looking and

Enjoy (Landscape) photography,

- Andy

Thanks - since it was my 70-200, I have a focus stack of that first image - but I haven't processed it yet, waiting to work on it on my big screens, not a small lappy lol3.gif

Great shots, Andy. We don't see enough of your landscape photography in this forum. That's pretty tricky, using the long lens to get the untracked dunes. mwink.gif I'm looking forward to seeing more of your trip.

In search of kryptonite, Super-Andy went looking everywhere, in the hopes of once flying again!

    835846001_5SDDB-M.jpg

Having zero luck in the poppy fields of the Antelope Valley he looked into the valley of Death at 280 feet below sea level......

    835846703_XGe8Y-M.jpg

Still with no luck, he looked into the bowels of the valley.....

    835846878_txBUq-M.jpg

Success, with kryptonite found he could fly again!

Love the shallow DOF in this one. I might crop it square, losing the bottom of the shot.

    2.
    847260353_VDPEv-Th.jpg
clap.gif love the square crop, leading lines and deep BW treatment!

Super repeating elements, the angles are awesome. So is the BW.

Another nice choice for BW, great composition, well done.

I'd like to see some more detail in the shadow area of the rock. Wonder if it can be brought out?

I found the trip really renewed the love I have for Death Valley. I've come through the park Winter, Spring and Summer. I prefer the flowers to the heat :D

It's funny how a different perspective makes for a different picture.

The sand dunes were easily the best place we stopped.

lol3.gif I thought they were goners, they were rock-solid salt, eh? Brought them home, tossed 'em in the washing machine and they're like new.
