Ant Attacks

Black ants first attcking a large caterpillar. They were still at it an hour later, but an hour after that the caterpillar had disappeared. Last 2 shots were taken very close to the caterpillar where a red ant made the mistake of getting too close. All 5Dmk2/MPE-65. Could just fit the caterpillar in the viewfinder at 1:1.

At what f-value did you shot the last one? I shot some ants the other day but had great dificulty getting them in the DOF (and you cant stack these.. ants are too quick)
Last shot was around 3:1 at F9 but I did do some sneaky hand stacking from 3 shots in that photo. The main problem with these is all the antennae waving that goes on.

Thanks Phil,
I didn't interfere with the caterpillar but found another one yesterday a couple of feet away from where this was going on- not sure if it is the same one though. This time I put a fallen camelia flower over the top of it.

Yes know what you mean - I was a bit shocked the first time I saw this going on.
