I didn't want to try to document the whole event. I was more interested in trying to capture the peak of action. Not sure if I succeed or not though. Pretty much used the Canon 85mm f1.8 and the 400mm f5.6L the whole day on a Canon 5D with 430EXII for fill in. The 85mm when used pretty much wide open can blur the background even on a full body shot, which I thought was pretty neat.

It was cloudy and overcast. Since there is nothing to bounce the light from, so I decided to leave the Sto Fen for my flash at home and when reviewing the photos, noticed that the light is very harsh and I saw red eyes in the eye of horses maybe 50 feet or so away. I've been going since 2005 and have always used Stofens and under many different conditions, never saw this amount of harsh flash fill in (even at -1 to -1/3 FEC). So from now on, I'll be back to using Sto fens.

I like them all, but especially the B&W conversion in #3. Would you mind sharing your conversion process?
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
I shoot in RAW and in LR3 Beta 2, just convert to b/w and that's pretty much it. I like to add a little tint in the shadows for a more sepia/brown tint rather than pure b/w as that often feels cold and duotone imo tends to give a warmer feel if you pick someplace between red and the yellow tints.

I am very impressed by the LR conversion. The blacks are silky and deep and the whites are very nice. It is like a darkroom print on real B&W paper.

    Thanks.
Believe it or not, if you use Canon's I think their DPP is even better at b/w conversion. I used to use it but find LR more convenient for everything else, so I use LR now.

I'm really loving the b/w shots here (1/3/6). Love the motion caught in #2, the skirt movement is fantastic.
