Sub homepage/Custom page at top Category level

It would be great to have your homepage tool bar options like recent photos, slide show, recent gallerias ... added to the Top level category page view. I mean if i am looking at the top category page, i could see all galleries and recent photos in that category. That means that category page becomes a small homepage on its own.. hows this ?
Can you allow adding a section of recent photos in that all gallearies in a particular category. This can be shown in category view page.
