"Updated" vs "Published"

When I publish a gallery it appears as an "update" (implying that it has already been published and that it has merely been altered somehow) rather than as a "published" gallery, and the same thing appears in my RSS feeds...

e.g. on the site:
"Updated: Apr 02, 2010 3:17pm BST" on my site and

e.g. in the feed:
"Marcus Tucker Photography updated gallery 'March 2010 - Shake @ Electric Ballroom'"

I suspect that this is because I upload to a new gallery using a preset where the setting to show/hide the gallery is set to hidden, then I do a final edit through, set the "featured" image (i.e. cover image) and perhaps recrop the thumbnail too, and only when I'm happy with it do I then change that show/hide setting to make it visible on my SmugMug page, and thus in the RSS too.

Perhaps this is actually a bug in SmugMug, as surely if I upload to a gallery which is hidden from its creation then it's not actually published until I reveal it? Perhaps the system logic SmugMug could be updated to permit this use case?

Otherwise, given that I need to be able to edit & tweak the gallery before revealing it, what can I do to make galleries published in this way appear (on the site and in RSS) as "published" rather than "updated"?

Marcus, This is still on our list to be fixed. I am sorry that it has not been addressed. I will bump it to the programmer again. I cannot give you a time estimate but look for a post on our release notes when that is updated. You can view the release notes here: http://releasenotes.blogs.smugmug.com/ I would recommend signing up for the RSS feed. Or by leaving a comment, you have the option to be notified by email when a new post is added.

3 years later this issue still hasn't been fixed. Will it ever be?
