Very excited to try digital pinhole for this challenge. I made the pinhole in my lens cap, tried a couple of different materials for the "lens", and shot a bunch. I used a pin to make holes in tinfoil, and also in thin cardboard. This is a good exercise to find dust on your sensor. Now I have a new project - cleaning my sensors!

Any suggestions on how to get sharper images would be appreciated. Also, of course, any feedback on this image is appreciated. Thanks! -Mark

Did you make a hole in the front lens cap or camera body-cap? If you shoot with the body-cap, it would probably be sharpest if you make a fine very tiny hole, the larger the hole the less sharp (correct me if my assumption is wrong though!). If made a hole in your front cap, then it all depends on the lens you're using. The image coming through the hole will be distorted by the lens thereby eliminating the use of the 'pin-hole'.

What I would personally do is use the body-cap as a plastic mount then cut off a huge whole in the front and then make an extension of the body cap. This will extend the image farther in its travel to the sensor. I am assuming this will produce an image similar to using a wide-angle lens (depending in the barrel-box length; too long and it will come out like a fisheye though!), but then again I just assuming b/c I have yet to do something like that.

I hope that helps. Someone else tried something like that here, take a gander in the Challenge forum there's at least one or two in there.

The smaller the hole the clearer your picture will be. Believe it or not, the little pins you use in sewing come in different widths. rolleyes1.gif

You can try poking the tin foil so just the very tip of the pin barely pokes through it.

Some sewing needles are even thinner than pins, so if you have any at home, you can try poking the tip of a very thin sewing needle through it to see if that makes your photo clearer.

This pinhole stuff is fun, isn't it?

And you're spot on (ha ha) about the sensor dust. rolleyes1.gif

I like the colors a lot in this shot and the comp is OK, but I've seen better from you. :D

I'd like to see the image without cropping stigma portion of the flower. thumb.gif
