Slideshow sizes

I have imported my images to smugmug with the maximum size as 12" on the long size and at 72ppi.

This gives me a nice size when viewed on "MY COMPUTER MONITOR" however, when my wife opens smugmug on her computer (which is the exact same monitor and screen as mine) the images are quite a bit smaller.

I want people to be able to view my images at the same size as I see them on my computer screen if they are using an equivalent size monitor without giving a complicated course in setting up a computer monitor. I direct friends to my smugmug galleries; why aren't identical monitors showing the same size than mine does.

I am sure that this is just a slight different in the way our screens are set up but, how can I tell?

We are both using Windows Office XP as our operating system and Internet Explorer as our browser.

Additionally, what is the optimum size of an image and optimum ppi for posting to get the biggest and best view?

Upload your highest resolution photos. Smugmug automatically makes screen size versions of your images and, if you're using one of the "auto" viewing styles like Smugmug or Journal, then Smugmug automatically selects an appropriate viewing size based on the size of the viewer's browser window. You don't have to manage this at all - as long as you upload high enough resolution images (at least 1600px on the long side), Smugmug just takes care of it for you. In views like Smugmug and Journal, you can even see how Smugmug adapts to your window size - just change the browser window size and see how Smugmug modifies the view to fit.

If you have more specific followup questions, we'll need a link to a specific page in your site that you're asking about.
