Custom hostname / DNS A record problem

I have my gallery set up to use a custom domain name that I've registered with GoDaddy.com . Per the instructions, I have a CNAME setup for www.mydomain.com, and an A record for @. When my gallery is using either the CNAME address or no custom hostname in the Control Panel, everything works fine. When my gallery is set to use mydomain.com, performance loading images seems very slow, and some gallery images/pages fail to load altogether, or require several reloads.

Any ideas what might be wrong? For an example of the problem, try loading any of the images at http://openhorizonsphoto.com/2010/01-coast-storm/11874740_3BCee#839991481_3Kjbz , particularly in full-sized mode.

Thanks!

The preferred setup is to use the CNAME as that utilizes the Akamai network for a speed boost. The A record is a bit slower and that might be why you are seeing the slower loading depending on how far you are from the servers. I would recommend using the CNAME. I will check on the loading issue to see if there is anything else on our end that might be related.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I've tried to add a CNAME for '@' but unfortunately GoDaddy gives me, 'ERROR - A record of a different type exists for the hostname @, could not create CNAME'. I'm puzzled because there are no other records using '@' that I can see in the 'A' or 'CNAME' sections, and deleting those in the MX section makes no difference. Sounds like I may need to take this up with GoDaddy support?
