I was in a hunting blind in my neighbor's yard taking shots of Finches and other small birds when all of a sudden everything got real quiet and all of the birds left. I looked over on the fence and found the reason. This guy was only there for about 10 seconds or so, just enough time for me to get 5 frames. C&C welcome.

He's a handsome youngster. Nice photo under pressure! I found the same thing happen here, a Cooper comes by once a day, and the birds get dead silent. It amazes me they know even when they can't see him. He always rattles off a complaint to me when I am out there, and soon leaves. They do hang by feeders.

Thanks Netgarden. Yeah it all happened real quick and I was stoked to get even this shot. Wouldn't have taken much to miss the shot entirely.

Nice capture. It's great when you get "lucky" with an unanticipated shot thumb.gif

Handsome devil, he is. Personally I believe it's young sharp shinned hawk which is the smaller cousin of the cooper's hawk. The sharpie is more prone to hang out in urban environments and pick off birds from feeders than is the coopers. Good catch! thumb.gif

Good shot under the circumstances. A slightly different perspective would have made that bkg really nice.
I suspect he will be back!
