I had the opportunity last Easter weekend to go to Kearney, Nebraska to view the Sandhill crane migration over the Platte River. It is the resting grounds for 80% of the world's sandhills as they stop to fuel up for the remaining journey to the Arctic and even into Siberia. Over 700,000 cranes were estimated to come through this year, most of which were there when I was around peak time. All of these cranes are packed into a stretch of river less than 30 miles long, so as you can imagine it is quite a site. I was at the Rowe Sanctuary viewing blind for two of the evenings where most of these images are taken.
