It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

That's great. The "HDR hole" is also where you are if you're obsessive about panoramics or if you think macro is cool just because it's macro.

I seem to be somwhere in the "Dammit, I suck" stage. It all kind of fits -- I don't care if I have the coolest, highest-tech gear anymore (I've taken to shooting old manual-focus lenses almost exclusively) and I've been looking longingly at vintage film cameras. I suppose that's a good sign...

I'm just coming towards the other side of the "Dammit, I suck" area, probably because I've photographed everything in my backyard at least twice. Got to get moving elsewhere with the camera rolleyes1.gif

As funny as this looks, there's some real thought/experience that went into this. With the exception of the camera phone and the HDR hole, this is almost the exact path I've been on for the last three or five years.

I've moved away from (past?) being a gadget whore and am no more concerned with technique, my photos are "OK" and I just got past the second round of "I suck". So, I'm somewhere just left of "One Exposure per Motive".

What's really funny is that I'm thinking of picking up a older film SLR.

Finally, I wonder if this post is any reflection on where Jeff thinks he is on these curves? :D

I feel I'll forever be stuck in gearfaggotry, but I did acquire an old film camera a little over a year ago...

I don't think I'd fit that graph at all.

BUT, I am in the stage of "letting go" all the technical crap, gear whorism, and all the post production (any raw processor that uses any kind of brush or layers). I have thrown out the window and allow creativeness in.

So far I am getting so many more keepers doing this and having a lot more fun.

Thanks for sharing this very insightful illustration.

The link page has a 404. But the first is fine.

I think I'm somewhere between Composition and Practice.
