Bodybuilding Competition
Just a few of many I took at a local Bodybuilding competition this past weekend. I shot all of these with no flash, ambient/available stage lighting only. Canon 70-200 f/2.8L NON-IS EOS40D on 1600 ISO... Lens on a monopod, shot from back of theatre. Please please let me know what you think.. Even if its a one word response. I think I really nailed some of these. #1 is Mike Grant a buddy of mine and he was blown away with the photos so I'm really happy about that. The rest can be seen on my site if you would like to see more. Enjoy!

I love #3... you were in the perfect spot to really capture that gesture. I'm wondering what it would look like BW. There is something really beautiful about it. I would like to pick him up and put him in a different space without carpet and curtains, but alas, he is heavy
Spread the love! Go comment on something!
Ditto. He looks like one of those strongmen from another era.

I like seeing other people do bodybuilding contests. I had started last year myself and did a couple of events (I'm training too !).
Again, great job!

I had the camera leaned up against the projection booth in this theater to help with stabilization, almost like firing a gun, breathe-hold-shoot-exhale haha. Then in post I used a little noise software to help with the 1600 ISO noise. Glad you like them!
The lights on the stage were apparently pretty good. Your friend should be impressed...
Nice work. With all the oil they put on, a little glistening is expected.
Thanks for sharing.

The person that lit the stage needs a firm handshake.
So basically I was shooting at 200mm f/3.5 1/125 ISO 1600. No flash. Aperture Priority Mode. Center Weighted Metering.
Glad your friend was happy with the results. So much dedication and work goes into just a few minutes of posing.
the lighting crew did a great job.

good luck with your own training.
have you ever been to http://www.tmuscle.com/ ? great forums and articles. My fiance is a power lifter. I had trained for strongman until a back injury stomped on my dream.
