Vic: a model shoot @ Erindale park, Mississauga

Took an assignment on short notice (1/2 hour). My m4/3 gear was already packed. So, just for kicks, I decided to try out this mini system in the acid test: model shoot in a setting with a young model, tall trees, bright sunlight and harsh shadows. My PWs don't work on Olympus, so I went with an on-board flash with a Demb diffuser for fill. In haste, I forgot to take along a reflector, but used the shadows to work into the pictures instead.

Taken @ Erindale park (Mississauga, Ontario) with an Olympus E-P2, Leica macro elmarit 45/2.8, Panasonic 20/1.7 & Olympus FL-36R flash. In hindsight, I found the Elmarit to be too sharp and had to soften all images from it. I generally don't post production work in public, but I haven't seen a model shoot done with this combo before, so these might help someone looking into this particular gear. Click on pics for access to larger sizes and EXIF info.

I thought of editing out the bra strap in #2, but kept it, as I feel it adds a bit of realism. Also, slight blowouts on the t-shirt: it's a compromise I made. C & C most welcome. Cheers.

I love these photos of a very pretty lady.

    A couple of thoughts....
In 2 - I wish she had that smile going - would have been even better.

It is very hard to pick a favorite - maybe #4 hmmm.... Really like them all.

I love the sharpness and her pose and expression in five (on the log). However, I am not to keen on the one leg in and one leg out.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Andy

    Andy,

Thank you for this useful critique. I was trying to get her to look sexy in #2, but maybe a smiling shot would have been better.

In #5, should I just clone out the leg? In future, for a similar pose, should I go for no legs in the picture or have both legs in the air? Or frame it differently altogether?

    Regards,

    Sabesh.

For me I would prefer cloning the boot out if it can be done cleanly (tough background there). AS for the future I would say it depends. If the shots are for her and she really likes those boots then get them in there with different framing. it would be nice to try it both ways 1) knees bent with both feet in air, and 2) legs straight and crop similar to what you have here or a tad lower down her leg. Either way it's all good!

I have a few shots with the legs in the positions that you suggested, bu the "look" isn't there :( I need to think more about composition & look next time around when it comes to framing a similar pose. Thanks so much for your input!

nice work in general. I think they could use a stronger black point and touch of more contrast.
