Ok I started a new thread cause I had so many pics on the other and didn't want the confusion. I did some more shooting and came up with these possibilties. I like them all but having a hard time deciding which one should be entered. Please let me know your opinion.

I like #3 I can tell it is a cheese grater, at least I think it is, but I like it anyway. Laughing.gif

    Nice work Joyce!

I still like #1, but #2 is now my favorite. I really like the angle you've decided to shoot from, beautiful DOF. clap.gifclap.gif

Probably won't help much, but I really like the color and simplicity/minimalist of #4! You have some great images to choose fromthumb.gif

My 2nd choice would be #3

That is my favorite too! I don't think anyone would guess what it is. Where as the cheese grater is something everyone can identify close up. I used all my macro rings stacked on this one...so its super close and that lil speck in the middle is huge compared to what it is for reals.

I still really like #1, but #2 is a close second.

There's something about the cheese grater in #3 that keeps pulling me back to it, it's like it could be a picture of the roof of a metal cave, with loads of staligtites ( laughable spelling eh? ) hanging down. I wonder what it would look like if you projected a different colour( maybe a deep orange ) through the holes?

I like the grater images...and agree that adding a color in the holes would be nice. I tried this a few days ago using various colored scarves and backlighting...fun effect but the perspective I used wasn't as interesting as your shots (I shot straight on).

Well I am still deciding. I know the cheese graters are good stock type images and could also be fun to work with the lighting on. But the problem is they are identified very easily. The theme of the challenge is WTH is that? Thus I need I am going to decide between #1 and #4. Of those two which is more visually appealing? Art wise I can say the minimalist approach is unique...plus I am not sure anyone can identify what it is. #1 is also unidentifiable although I mentioned in my last thread what it was. Its still going to be a mystery to the judges.

    So #1 or #4?

To my eye #1 appeals more.

Have you thought about a real close up crop/shot of just one of the cheese grater eruptions?, perhaps from a shallow angle with a red/orange light shining thru, kinda like a metal volcano?

#1 by far. Anyone telling you otherwise is trying to hurt your chances of winning. ;-)

Sorry to be different, but I still really like #4, and contrary to the previous comment, I am not trying to hurt your chances of winning (although, I think you already know that)!

I like #1, but personally find the OOF white area a little distracting. All just my humble opinion FWIW

Yeah, I figured as much....just wanted to be clear, because I have found that what appeals to me seems to often differ from the majority of what others find appealingne_nau.gif

I have chosen to use #4 with the following reasons....
    1. Its a WTH is that theme so no matter what I do with the grater....they are too reconizable thus giving an answer to it.

    2. number one entry has issues that I tried to resolve with some reshoots today and was unsuccessful at fixing what I think is flaws in the image.

    3. number four is flawless in my perspective and I highly doubt that anyone could guess what it is...thus meeting the theme. I know its a gamble with the judges..but it always is!

I will let everyone know what it is after the challenge gets to voting round. Unless of coarse someone guesses it! I don't mind playing the game "Guess it"!thumb.gif

Thank you all for your comments of my images, I really do appreciate it. I know I am going a different direction than what most would have liked but I got to go with my heart on this one.

    Hi Joyce,

I haven't read the other's comments, but i think I like #3 more of the whole set.

However, as a non expert, I would like to see a more uniform DOF on it...

    nope.

I will say that it involved a flash directly under the object to get this color. Only filter between the flash and the object was a white polyurathane cutting board.

    Darn! Laughing.gif

Upon closer examination I think I see small bubbles in the middle. Is it a viscous liquid like Jello or hair gel or something like that? This thing is killing me!! I assure you I have spent more time than anyone looking at this photo trying to figure our WTH it is! No matter how you finish in the competition, you certainly fulfilled the theme!! Good job.
