Llywellyn wrote:So much can be conveyed through a person's hands. The stories engraved in each knuckle and palm tell a little about the life a person has thus far lived. I love those stories. I always want to hear more of them.

I'll jump in!
My son went on a field trip to Port Hudson today - the last Confederate stronghold of the Mississippi River (which was surrendered over to the Union). This woman was there spinning wool, she explained how certain colors were achieved (which involved everything from ground pecan shells to emptying chamber pots). Her and her sister hand-dye yarn and still can't perfect some of the color "recipes" from 150+ years ago. She explained that da Vinci invented the little wheel over 500 years ago (on the right) but didn't ever build it, a German scientist found the design and made the wheels. While this isn't an *original* spinner, it is based off of da Vinci's design.
