Hi, I got a macro lens yesterday (rented for the week-end) and tried some shots.

It doesn't have an image stabilizer, and the guy at the store told me that I had to use a tripod.

I didn't know this, and didn't brought it with me, but I was so anxious to try it... well this is one of the shots:

- I can call it "Closed-up"

What do you think?

    Is it a Zipper??

I think it's a good idea, but I wish there was just a bit more in focus, not the whole thing though, just a little more.

    Yes it is rolleyes1.gif

I know what you mean, but I find it VERY difficult to focus with this lens... almost impossible ne_nau.gif

    - I'll try to use a tripod to see what I can get. If not, I'll just use the zoom on my regular lens deal.gif

Welcome to the world of macromwink.gif Sometimes it can be easier to move the camera very slightly rather than use the AF. You can also use a tripod and then take several photos at slightly varying focus points and then combine them with a program like CombineZP.

Keep at it, I always enjoy seeing what you come up with for the challenges.

I also have some new shots:

    #5 From inside out

I keep the lens on manual and do a focus that way. Then I take several shots of the same position but I move focus just enough to get the forground in one shot and the middle in the next and the back in the third. I do not use a stacking program when I put them together though. Instead I pick a main image I want (the best focused) and then I open the other images also in my workspace and clone in the areas I like on the other image onto my original image. I find it easier than stacking.mwink.gif

I have to say I really like #3 a lot, but with the challenge being WTH is that, I think most would recognise it as a zip.

#5 makes me wonder what it is, maybe the inside of a flower? or is it some sort of alien eye mwink.gif

Ha, ha,... my husband couldn't recognize the zipper, until I told him :)

    - are you sure you recognized it in the first place without the title?

#5 is.... ne_nau.gif .... if I tell it, people will say again that is recognizable rolleyes1.gif ...

    - Can you keep a secret? It's the bottom of an onion :D

I did not recognize the zipper in the first shot until I read the first reply. Still like it the best. 4 & 5 are very interesting but being allergic to mold they freak me out a bit.

    Hi Tatiana...

Of the zipper shots, I favor #2. I think b/w works very well for this image. However, I'm not convinced of your DOF. Did you use a tripod for this one? Did you use a remote or a timer to eliminate any shake? Part of me thinks it is a bit soft?

#4 is grapefruit, right? I can't tell for certain at work, but is the image a bit underexposed?
#5 is my favorite of the group.clap.gif

I'm liking #5. I would have never guessed bottom of an onion. Great idea.

    Is this any better?

I used 6 photos with different focusing and of course some PS filters:

I guess I can find a bigger onion to morrow - I don't know what happened with the one I used previously
    - I may have cut it for lunch...headscratch.gif

I think they are both great but I like the deeper color in the second one best.
