Awesome capture, Dan! According to Sibley, the Tucson area is about the only place in the country where you're likely to see these hawks. Congrats for capturing one.

Nice shot of a hawk that I've never even heard of! I wonder what their range is as I saw one very similar to it in the woods here on Vancouver Island last year.
and also.....
I'm a pretty amateur bird photographer but I started light whistling just before a series of shots last year when photographing bald eagles on the Chehalis River and was pleasantly surprised when I started getting these shots of eagles looking right into my lens.
Hearing someone like Ric give the same advise makes me feel pretty good about figuring it out all by myself!!
