I'm asking the Pros

In July, I'll be embarking on quite the journey. My occupation as a Marine has landed me a spot working for some VIPs in Tampa, FL with whom I will travel to about 21 different countries in Northern Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Getting there is already taken care of, it's what to do when I get there that I'm sure I'll run into problems with. So, now, I'm asking those that have done it before: what tips do you have? Anything would be helpful, as I obviously want to make the absolute most out of this experience.

I am not sure what kind of advice you are looking for, and I am by no mean a pro, but I have a little experience of travels, so my advices would be:
    - Prepare storage (memory cards and/or HDDs). A lot. And I mean A LOT.
    - Invest in a good backpack to carry your gear.
    - Pack a universal A/C adapter.
    - Inasmuch as possible, bring a compact camera for when you cannot carry your DSLR.
    - Enjoy ! :D

1st i would invest in 2 pieces of fast glass like: 24-70 and 70-200f2.8 and sell the 28-135 if need be........and a decent 4 section tripod with decent holding weight (15-25 lbs and the closer to 25 the better and of course the more expensive........I use Giottos Aluminum, it fits inside of my duffles or hard suit case [diagonally) and it hold around 22 lbs so it is sturdy even high winds and it did not breat the bank{under @200}........)......A second body may be be out of reach but I would want one for world travel especially if I may not get back there.....also as mentioned above a very good Point and Shoot that shoots raw.........I think Niepce covered everything else......right now you can get Seagate 500gb FreeAgent Go drives for $99 on line.........I have used Transcend 8gb cards for several years now and have not had a failure yet (it will happen but not yet), I keep 12 8gb cards with me at all times and in the exotic places you will be learning to shoot and process in HDR might be very worth while.....it can really make those once in a lifetime land and cityscapes just jump off the page at you.
