Score!

848283986_NMvSf-XL.jpg

Shot my first Soccer game recently. Shot with my Nikon D40 and 50-200mm on a monopod, in Auto Sports mode. I wanted to concentrate on following the action. Zooming in and out, and trying to make the shot was enough for me to think about this time out. I figured I would let the camera take care of everything else. This was my favorite shot of the day.

Cropped and slight PP in Photoshop. There is an OOC version here:

I put more shots from the game, for the team to access, here:

Thanks for looking! C&C if you like.

    thanks for sharing

It's not what you look at that matters: Its what you see!

Nice shots. I've been shooting my sons team and often find myself on the wrong side of the action.. guess I am too distracted loosing my voice. I normally shoot in Aperture mode to keep my f-stop as low as possible. Have not had a good sunny day yet though... all overcast and a little rain.

Where is this that they mix boys & girls?

I shoot a lot of soccer. Don't wish for sunny days. The bright sun generally leads to harsh facial shadows which can make photography difficult. Some of my best shots have been on cloudy and/or rainy days.

    Hi Ted,

The "joy of the score" and the body language of the opposing team member made this shot for me.

    Thanks for commenting!

This shot was taken on a bright, but overcast day. We live upstate NY, it is the AYSO league.

I agree that overcast makes for a beautiful shot with even light that really brings out the bright uniforms. Only had my D90 since December. I guess I am still waiting for an opportunity this season to shoot something different over here around Seattle. A shadow in the grass would be nice :)

Interesting with the girls mixed in with the boys. Through my job (not photography) I do a lot with AYSO down in southern California and I don't ever remember a mixed team at a tournament. I always remember playing as a kid we would practice against an older girls team at the same field... boy would they take advantage of us.
