Still shooting Ski Races!
While everyone is shooting baseball, LAX, and soccer, I spent a beautiful weekend in Central Oregon shooting the last ski race of the season. My youngest son competed in the May Day Race at Mt Bachelor. This is fun way to wind down the season - 3 days of racing and fun. They do a XC event, a jump event, and either a GS (for the younger than 10 crowd) or a SG (for the older than 10 crowd).
Instead of posting single shots from a sequence, here is a complete sequence of a single racer.

#2 is probably my favorite. These are really sharp and the contrast of the blue skin suit against the snow is great.
Thanks for looking Greenpea. Camera was a D300 with the 300mm f/4 AFS lens. Manual at f/4 and 1/2500 with WB set to auto. I shot everything in RAW and conversion was done in LR2.
I picked up the 300 f/4 a little while ago and this was the first race I shot entirely with it. I noticed a huge difference in my keeper rate vs. the 80-200 non-AFS. Before a sequence like this would have 2-3 shots out of focus. With the 300mm, most of the sequences had all the shots in focus. Big difference.
Some kids really get into those stickers. For me one of the beauties of ski racing photos is that you have that white backdrop to help make the colors pop.
Comments and constructive criticism always welcome.
