Front page image not appearing

I'd be very appreciative of help on the following.

I've had an image appearing on the front screen of my website (removed) perched within the Portraits gallery as a hidden image, and this has worked fine up until earlier today, as I don't want the front screen image to appear in any of the galleries. Earlier today, the image spontaneously disappeared from the front screen. I've removed the hidden status from the image, and it now appears on the front screen again.

Is there a way that I can display the image on the front screen and not have it appear in any of the galleries?

The hidden status has worked fine up until earlier today while still showing the same image on the front screen, now it doesn't seem to work.

Put it in an unlisted gallery, something like "site files" and link to it there.

Thanks Allen. I had already tried linking the image from an unlisted gallery to the front page, but the image still wouldn't appear on the front screen. Will re-try it again.

Make sure external links are on and it's not checked "hide".

Now it's not working again. The image is in an unlisted gallery, it's not hidden, and external links are on.

Is there a reason for it not showing on the front screen?
