Having one gallery per category (?)

Not sure if I worded the title right or not but essentially, this is what I want.

I have the "galleries" link on the top of my site. I would like clients to be able to click that and see categories on that page ie: couples, family, kids, ect. I don't want each session to have a separate gallery. I would like all couples in couples, and then have all the couples sessions I do, in that gallery. Families would get another gallery and so on.

No sub-categories if that makes more sense. Here's the website because I know it will help explain it more: http://www.lisaottophoto.com

If this needs more explanation, I will try my hardest to explain it.

I think I must be missing something here.

Your site currently has multiple galleries within a category. For example, you have a category called Family, and there are three galleries in that category. There are no subcategories, and you don't need subcategories with your current organization.

Are you really suggesting that you are going to put all family photos in a single gallery as opposed to a gallery per family? I would think that your customers would be pretty annoyed at that.

Are you trying to establish a portfolio that contains a single gallery for each type of photography that you do? If that's what you want, create a category called portfolio. Assign galleries to that category, one for family, one for maternity, etc. Then when a viewer clicks on portfolio they will see one gallery of each type. Click on the gallery, and they will see the photos.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Actually that is what I'm trying to accomplish. All families in one gallery. Meaning the less clicks the client or potential client has to do.

I guess sub-categories wasn't the right word. But I don't want to have a gallery named "families" and then a gallery in that gallery with another click into the album.

So I guess the easiest way to say it is, once they click into the "family" gallery, it's all there and not having to click to get into another gallery.

Click galleries at the top of the page
See galleries listed (couple, family, kids, etc)
Click the gallery you want and you're there
2 clicks...that's it. Less time for the client and more user friendly.

I'm not uploading all pictures from each session, just a few so it wouldn't be like going through 100 pictures. Plus, I would rotate them out.

Then you need to put the photos in the same gallery.

If I were a customer I wouldn't want my photos intermixed with those of other customers. I also might not want my photos available to the public at large. But it's your site, your customers.

I have private galleries for my customers, this is just for reference.

I've tried putting the pictures in the same gallery. It defaults it to the "other" gallery. I don't think what I'm trying to accomplish is either being described by me correctly, or it's not feasible.

How are you putting the photos into the gallery? Are you uploading them into a single gallery? Or are you moving them from one gallery into another gallery. In either case, you need to specify the gallery.

I was trying to move them but like I said, I don't think that what I want done, can be done.

This site is sort of what I'm talking about. Like a portfolio site: http://www.davespataro.com/

If you hover over his portfolio link, it lists the different galleries. From there, the kids are in kids, families in families, ect. You don't have to click a different gallery after that.

You can move photos from one gallery to another gallery. See http://www.smugmug.com/help/splitting-galleries.

Or you can simply re-upload the photos to the gallery of your choice.

If you're looking to implement a drop-down navbar, see http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=42747&highlight=dropdown.
