I agree with rteest on both photos. The first is way cool, but better if it had sharp focus for the whole frame. I didn't recognize it, but CaiusMartius' guess sounds right.

This last one is pretty cool and definitely on theme, FWIW, I liked the straws too!

Thank you so much - I like the last one too, but I was not sure it fit's the theme...

    - It doesn't look too much like the close-up of an object, even though it has been done
starting with a macro shot of an object... but I totally changed it's original appearance in PS mwink.gif

I feel stacked, because this macro tool is a new toy that I don't know, and an area that I just
started exploring for this contest - It may be wonderful..., but for me at this stage seems to
    be a nightmare... headscratch.gif

I know we don't have to use a macro lens, but because I rented it (again for this week-end),
I want to justify the effort mwink.gif

... and even though it's actually very interesting to play with macros and try to learn
this technique, I found myself in a frustrating dilemma:

    - should I put my efforts into learning how to nicely shoot macros, or should I do a lousy job,
in order to make the object unidentifiable... rolleyes1.gif

I feel like I failed with this new experiment, and I'll never try again macros! eek7.gif

Maybe I'll try one more vegetable today and I'll be more than happy to return this lens Monday wings.gif

PS: I love Mark Twain too, Karin iloveyou.gif

    :Outstanding!!!
I'm so sorry you haven't had a great experience with the macro.
It can be a bear but don't give up.
I really like your latest image. I like the straws to. It's a toss up which one I
like better but I like them for different reasons.

Whatever you decide good luck to you.bowdown.gif

I love your most recent effort. There is no way to know how the judges are going to react to our entries so choose the one you like best and/or that you think has the most going for it for this challenge. Personally, I think this one has it all.

I think you have gotten some good pix with the macro. You definitely shouldn't give up on it after the challenge is over. :D

You are being waaay too hard on yourself. Step back a bit and look again.
You've got three very pleasing images, with good compositions and lighting - and you've got us guessing at what they are.

    This is good work. thumb.gif

What is that last one and how did you shoot it?
    Creativity's hard.

Thank you very much Gail, Virgina and Pyry for the kind and warm encouragement with the macro photography.

I took some more shots yesterday with the rented macro lens.

I also made the experiment of re-taking some of the same shots
using the zoom on my regular lens (72-105mm).

Comparing the 2, I can really see the difference in clarity and details in the favor
or the macro... I understand why people like it mwink.gif

I guess the only thing I was missing was the experience and... patience...thumb.gif

I can certainly give it a try again, sometimes... maybe rolleyes1.gif

    - I took this yesterday with the rented macro lens:

    Natural curls

    854925532_JCWH5-L-1.jpg

Again, I handled it (sorry), because my tripod is not so versatile to go that low
to the ground and to be adjusted for all kind of angles...
    - I know this could have been much sharper and in focus with a proper use of the tripod...

... I also had to deal with the wind... headscratch.gif

I will explain how I did it as soon as I can put all the steps together.

Anyway, I started with this image:

If you cannot guess what it is, it's a detail of a "honeycomb" blind I have in my office rolleyes1.gif
