can anyone help me decide?
Hi.. I live in the Philippines and in May, I will be going on a vacation to the US.. Thing is that the canon 7D+EF-s 18-135mm costs about roughly 2,800$ here. And I'm sure that it's cheaper there especially in New York.
I'm sure about getting the canon 7d but not sure about what lenses to go with it? my choices are..
a.) ef-s 15-85mm IS USM + a cheap macro lens
b.) ef-s 17-55 IS USM
i usually shoot outdoors under the sunlight or sometimes indoors with my family...
oh.. and can anyone give me advice on where to buy my camera? im pretty much excited :barb

oh okhay.. thanks...
and by optical quality.. is the 17-55 really better?
and the 15-85 was better at almost all? o.O
The Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens and Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens cleanly win the overall competition. And at equal apertures and focal lengths, these lenses perform very similarly. If a bright light (such as the sun) is in or near the framed image, the 17-55's image quality quickly falls apart due to flare. The 17-55 has the big aperture advantage - making it a much better low light action lens. It can also create a more-strongly blurred background at the same focal lengths.
The 15-85's big advantage is the longer focal length range - which extends both wider and significantly longer. The longer end advantage is very useful for portraits where the 85 works much better for tight portraits. Price is another of the 15-85's strong advantages.
As for price only you know. Usually prices in US look good unless you have a business and can deduct costs, in which case buying outside US can be cheaper - it is for me. When you have no business you can choose to evade your local taxes by buying from US, slipping past customs, and risking worse local service. Imo you should be able to find a decent source in Philippines and have a clear conscience and better support for the indefinite future.
Basically when you buy off the rack in US someone other than you feels they get cheated - either your tax people or the manufacturer who wants high prices outside US (Adobe is a real rip-off). You get a lower tag price but you have to smuggle the goods back home and deal with any service complications. You can be sure that Adobe (eg) knows when you are using US bought software in another country - maybe they don't choose to make a fuss right now but they could, anytime.
Living in Philippines and even considering such a purchase you are one of the rich kids. Rich people do not cheapskate around - convenience, comfort, and cost of ownership are more important. Why else would I be paying $300 for a pair of shoes when I can buy cheaper? So buy your kit now and learn how to use it before your plane lands - you'll save precious time in the States by not trolling around the malls and finding they do not have the 17-55 with hood on stock at this precise moment in time. Think like a rich guy - you actually are one!
By the way - if you go for 17-55 I really recommend the sun cap. hood, or whatever you call it - the thing you screw on the end to limit the stray light. It makes a huge difference. With other L quality glass it is delivered standard but a 17-55 does not quite qualify for L status so you have to buy it separately.
and as for the service here, I bought a canon rebel Xsi last year from the States and i have not had any problems with the service here
