So I tried to get a closer look at it, and now I really feel sorry for the critter.

(all handheld with a k20d + kiron 105mm - f13 - iso100 (except nr1 = 280) - 1/125s)

well spotted, i have seen loads of bumbles with mites. they must keep them warm through hibernation

Good series - as Phil says not uncommon to find these on bees. The difficult bit is working out if they are actually parasites or just getting a lift to the new nest site.
