Sunset in Bandon (Oregon Coast)

I made my first trip to Bandon, OR last weekend (taking an indirect route through the Columbia Gorge, Crater Lake, and Redwood National Park). It was worth it as I was treated to a great sunset as a storm was clearing, here are some of my favorite shots from that night.

    Nice pictures as usual, Ron. I particularly like #1 and #4. I like the subtle colors in #1 with just enough like on the rocks to begin to pick up details.

    I like 4. Crop just above the bottom rock and a small crop off the top to make it more of a pano, I like that better.

    Looks like a great place to be. We were there last summer, it was a fog fest...

    All shots were with a Canon 5D M2, the first four with a 24-105 f/4 L, the last with the 70-200 f/4L. #4 had a 10 second exposure, the rest were around f/14 ISO 100 and whatever the evaluative metering said as the exposure length.

    I really do appreciate that as I use 24-105 and 70-200.

    Thanks again to everyone for their comments and feedback. Bandon has the opposite problem of most beaches - too many seastacks! They sometimes get in the way of each other. But there are so many compositional possibilities, and throw in the variations with the tide, angle of the sun there should always be something interesting to photograph. I hope to make a return trip sometime this year (probably when shooting Crater Lake in the summer).

    Getting good light is like when I get my paycheck, it's less than I want and more than I deserve :D I think Marc called it being a light-snob, I think I'm definitely at that phase now. There are many times when I don't get anything but I usually don't post them.

    Really nice series Ron. I'm going out on a limb here and picking #5 and my fav. It is really a moody shot. Brings the viewer right into the storm. This looks like it could have been taken at Cape Horn in a gale rather than OR. well done

    Or rather, the longer you shoot, the less you keep. I take as many exposures as I ever did. Quantity might not equal quality, but at least I can control quantity! :)

    Thanks Doug! The light was really amazing, alternating between rain and sun and everything in between.
