Built in 1783, this Anglican cathedral withstood "The Great Fire" in 1877 Saint John, New Brunswick (my birthplace - not my birth year :rofl) that destroyed over 1600 buildings and left 13,000 people homeless.

of red doors on some churches. I can tell ya that I was clueless and
very mystified when first I saw them. Michael
Thanks. It's beautiful with enormous stained glass windows, pews polished by two centuries of hands rubbing the wood and behinds on the seats, a magnificent pipe organ and craftsmanship that is unbelievable. I grew up in that neighbourhood going to that church; sang in the choir; played the organ as soon as my legs were long enough to reach the foot keyboard. My plan is to spend some time there this summer and try and document some of its more unique features.
This is one of the side windows. Unfortunately, due to vandalism, they've had to install protective plexiglass on the outside.
The stone work is amazing.
The roof and steeple are copper clad, turned green by the elements, particularly the salt air (Saint John, NB, is a port on the Bay of Fundy).
Thanks for looking.

Amazing how many different reasons are given. Regardless of the theory your subscribe to, it makes for interesting discussions.:D

that I would be entering the gates of hell. I would think that particular
door would be red if ever there was to be a red door on something.
We have a dark red door on our house and now that I think about it...
it has been hell around here from time to time. :argue
Maybe I should look into the color green for our door. Something calming.
Are you sure this is the reason? At one time, and maybe still, that was used for storm windows. In fact, that is the reason we have it over our windows in the much smaller church that I attend in So. Illinois, USA.
Incidently, between the plexeglass and your watermark the design of the window is very hard to see.
