Hi you'll,

One of the things I love about the Viera Wetlands is the different birds that you have to shoot.

There are always egrets to be found.

The Great Blue Heron is permanent resident
30086064-L.jpg

there are plenty of ibis

30086060-L.jpg

If you look carefully you will find green herons
31727062-L.jpg

There are always plenty of tri-colored herons

31728197-L.jpg

the occasional spoonbill stops by

and thats not including the raptors (eagles, hawks, ospreys, caracaras), storks, cranes, ducks, stilts, terns, owls, woodpeckers, snowy and cattle egrets, vultures, and gators.

    I remember
When you would post all those shots of NYC buildings and people! They were great then and these are great too.

Maybe one day Andy will follow you down there!

Especially if you throw him some food.

    Great shots Harry.

By the looks of these shotsthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif , I can safely assume you have recovered very well from your surgery! I am anxious to get out shooting ; but the 2 year old attached to my leg makes it impossible!

Excellent shots here Harry...I love the one with reflections, ..did you take that at the entrance to Click?

I may actually get up there this A.M for a few quickie shots...

    Hey Jeff,

I get up to 700mm with my 500mm lens and 1.4 TC. I tried a 1.7 on my 300mm and I was not happy with it. I found it slowed the AF performance way too much.

Jeff, Ben, I have a very noisy green to put up sometime. I mean the thing is so noisy it "looks" like a supersonic boom. I had even raised the EC for it.

I think he must be closer, maybe he takes them with him in the car.:uhoh

Now, Steve, I don't think he has shown us a sparrow. We need a sparrow. When I went to Magnolia yesterday I expected to see most of those birds Harry just showed us. No spoonbills, but most.

And I thought, good gosh, you all must be tired of the same birds........I must be tired of the same birds: but not the environment.

Actually there were fewer than I have ever seen yesterday. Scary.

But Sparrows would be very good for those of us who know just where to go to "scare" up these other birds, at least for now. Though I must admit, I have not seen that many egrets together at all. Well, on a tree and not all visible. My resident GBH, he wasn't there yesterday. One green heron and one night heron: once.

And I don't have sparrows either. I may be doing seagulls shortly, while my birds fly south to Harry.

VEry nice shooting, Harry, very nice! Especially the green heron. Just my preference, since mine is so bad. Do you change the EC for the darker herons and back again for the egrets, or is the Fla sun so effective that everything is light?

I sometimes shoot my lens "naked", :D , by that I mean as a 300L, which it is, with no extender at all. I seemed to notice faster AF and that is important.

That is the whole reason, that I can think of right now for getting the 400L instead. I get the reach now, with the 400L I expect to get faster AF with the same reach.

I know I mentioned your shots, great as usual...........and the green heron.
I was seeing like 3 in a shoot, and they were closer, too. They are getting scarcer and more easily spooked, if that is possible.

    Hi Pete,

You have to shoot what you got. In NYC it was the candids and the buildings, in Florida its the wildlife. I don't think Andy could handle Florida. Maybe in another year he will be up to the challenge. biggrinbounce2.gif

    Hey Trish,

I am recovered. Once you get detached from your grandson give me a call and we can hook at the wetlands.

That shot was taken by the entrance to the click ponds. The egrets have stopped meeting there lnow. They seem to using the first cell now by the entrance as their new meeting spot in the early morning before they go off for the day.

Glad to hear you are doing fine. I think my grandson will have to be surgically removed from my legrolleyes1.gif Tough to have the camera near him as he takes great joy in touching the end of the lens.

Thank you Ginger. I change my EV constantly. The light is always changing and the EV has to be adjusted accordingly. If you shoot a bunch of shots w/o checking your EV settings you will be sure to have a good number of over or under exposed shots.
