I recently discovered on the Internet that some people have converted this manual focus lens to use on their DSLR's. I currently use a Canon 50D. Does anyone know the type of adapter that is needed to make this conversion and who may sell it? I went to my local camera shop and they were clueless. I remember this never being a great lens but it has some sentimental value. It was one of the first lenses that I ever purchased back in 78. Thank You,

Adorama has a simple adapter that I use:

I did add an AF confirmation chip to improve focus accuracy. (It's about impossible to manually focus with a modern dSLR viewfinder and standard matte screen.)
I also have an adapter that I purchased from EBay that came with the confirmation chip installed. I no longer have that vendor's information, but you should be able to search EBay to find something similar.
This seems very similar to what I have:

I am suspicious that it may be a T-Mount lens. Call your local camera shop and see if they have a T-Mount adapter of any kind. If the lens threads fit the T-Mount adapter then you should get an adapter to go from T-Mount to M42/universal, and then get one of the adapters I previously mentioned above, preferably one with a focus assist chip). You could also get a T-Mount to EOS adapter, but I have not seen one with the focus assist chip.
If a T-Mount adapter does not fit, then it is likely just an M42/universal thread so you just need the one adapter.
If you could get some close-up photos of the back of the lens and the adapter that might help in identification.

I know it is a different brand but I what the box calls a Vivitar Basic Telephoto Lens: 200mm F3.5 from the CompatibleTSystem. I slip with it refers to it having a T adapter and lens mount T-1. This was originally used on an SLR that takes M42 mount lenses. I have used it with a simple M42 to EOS adapter on both my EOS 620 film camera and my D60 digital.
So if the brand referred to above is anything like the brand that I have it could be kind of a hibrid that just needs the M42 to EOS adapter at this point. If I was buying now I think I would want the confirmation chip.
