I just couldn't resist these goslings...they were so cute!! I think I might have the concept of the golden spiral, but wanted to run it through the forum for C&C. Is my idea of a golden spiral a stretch? (Any other feedback on this photo is appreciated too...) Thanks! Off to shoot some sunsets with Darkraven.

In my mind, you have gotten a perfect example!!! See how your eye travels through the photo?? The composition is comfortable, it is an intimate image, and well proportioned. Just wish mama's head was in focus more!!!

    I think it's quite theme-worthy!

Where did you find the overlay and how did you apply it to your photo?

I followed some of the earlier links, but can't seem to save the template overlay.

I agree with Trish, if you have any other shots from that day perhaps you have one with momma's head in focus you could overlay.

    Sweet image.

Thank you for the feedback! I'll either try to reshoot or test my PS skills and try the overlay. Agree that Mother Goose should be more in focus...thought I might get away with it but your keen eyes caught me right away. :D

Gail, here is the program I used to create the overlay: http://www.markuswelz.de/software2/index.html

Beautiful photo and composition. I agree that it will be better to have the mother goose head more in focus too.

Well, I'm failing at all attempts to fix the focus on the mother goose. How about these two for the S-curve? I may need another subject....

Great idea of combining the photo with the actual golden spiral. As others have noted, the only downfall is the blurred head of the mother goose. I don't think it completely ruins the photo though. Nice job!

I love the goslings! (#3). I can't decide if that's enough of an s-curve, but I really like it.

I, too, really like the goslings. I think the S curve is evident enough to qualify. Great photo, Tammy!

These are refreshingly fun! I too think there's enough "S" in the goslings.....

Thank you for your comments and feedback! I added #3 to the gallery (after straightening and cropping a bit). It's a different game trying to see a subject to fit the composition rather than composing the subject...wonderful lesson! :D

I like your original shot. I think its the strongest on the theme and also in general.

Thanks Kidzmom and liflander for your comments!! I've had a hard time deciding between #1 and #3....originally liked #1 best but bothered by out of focus Mama Goose. The more I look at it, I see this flaw and don't feel good about entering it. #3 is simple and I do feel that the S-curve rule of composition is displayed throughout the image (small and large) from wave shapes in the water to the indivdual goslings to the overall image of the two goslings together. I like the look of anticipation on the little goslings face as he explores this new skill of his. So, there you go. It's hard to choose sometimes...especially when I get feedback in two different directions. : )

It's the little drip of water on the gosling's beak that cinched it for me.......
