Show/Hide Forums

Hello folks,

I hope this hasn't been addressed already but I can't find it if it has. Prior to the forum update I had hidden a good chunk of the DGrin forums that I have no intention of visiting. Today, however, I upgraded to a Pro account and hoped to re-show the SmugMug customization forum but the option seems to be missing from my Control Panel. :scratch

Is this missing or moved or am I just blind? :D

Thanks!
Travis

    Hmm...I don't see it either.

You're a software guy, right?, so you could craft your own search URLs and bookmark them. Just use include=forumNumberList or exclude=forumNumberList. For example, I monitor Street, OCS and DGrin Support, so I have this bookmarked in my browser:
    http://www.dgrin.com/search.php?do=getnew&include=17,44,59

I have other searches saved for other purposes and keep them all in a folder that's on my FF bookmark bar. It's actually more convenient than the New Stuff search because I don't have to scroll to the top of the page to get to it.

We'll also see what happened to the old forum list control. deal.gif

    I'm glad I wasn't just (not) seeing things. thumb.gif

I'll set up some bookmarks and use those until things are back in order. Thanks, Richard!

I've been hit by the same thing... I hid a bunch of forums way back when, and have just returned to dgrin and would like to unhide a bunch of them.

How do I go about even seeing a list of those forum numbers?

I don't remember well how it used to work in the old version. Are you saying that the forums you hid earlier are not showing up on the main Dgrin page? headscratch.gif

If they are there, you can find out the number by mousing over the forum name and looking at the url--the forum number is at the end after f=. If your browser doesn't support this, just click on the forum and you will find it in the url bar.

If they're not showing anywhere, then we may have a more serious problem. Please let us know.

If you log out of DGrin and view as a visitor you will see a full list of forums. You may then navigate to your missing forums and create shortcuts as Richard recommended. Here is a sample URL from the "Cameras" forum.
    http://www.dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3

You can bookmark this forum for future viewing or use the forum number (3) to retrieve the new posts using a bookmark as Richard recommended. The following URL retrieves new posts from the Cameras, Nikon Land and The Kitchen Sink.
    http://www.dgrin.com/search.php?do=getnew&include=3,37,38

I hope that answers your question and I hope the gurus can, at least, reset our forum view lists to default. Call me old fashioned but I'd much rather navigate through the forums to see the new posts. :devbobo

    That's exactly what I'm saying! eek7.gif

Ah ha!! I was familiar with the numbers at the end of the URL, but I just couldn't figure out how to see them for the forums that weren't showing up for me.

I really love the way it used to work, so if there was a way to get it back, that would be awesome. Just knowing how to get the direct links to the other forums I'd like works for now though. The only problem I have with resetting everything is that I also use "http://www.dgrin.com/search.php?do=getnew" without any forum numbers after it quite a lot, and that link is automatically filtered by the same list. Most of the forums I have filtered are fairly busy and I'd rather they don't clutter that list...

Actually, this is turning into a bigger problem than I realized at first...and it took me a while to figure out why the search wasn't working. All I was getting (just after I finished marking all my regular forums read) was "Sorry, there are no new threads to view." It turns out that if I included even a single forum I didn't have hidden then it was only searching that one. If all I include in the search was forums that I currently have hidden, then I get "Invalid Forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator" headscratch.gif

Not good. We have determined what the problem is and are looking at a possible solution. Stay tuned. deal.gif

I hope I'm not being too impatient only waiting a week, but is there any word on this? I've got nearly every forum bookmarked now as a workaround, but it would be nice to get some of them grouped into searches...

Sorry for the delay. It should be resolved soon.

    Another bump... Any news?

I'm getting by with bookmarks to my hidden forums from the browser, but they're still hidden when I use TappaTalk... :-(

I thought I did this a while back. Apparently, all I did was grab the software :yikes

I'll do it later today. My apologies.

    Looking great!

I had to clear the cache for Tapatalk before it would work right. (even after I logged out it wouldn't refresh the forum list...)

If this doesn't work for you or if you see two instances of "the list", check the forum skin. If it's anything but Gallery Black, try Gallery Black and check again.

Of course, you may also want to clear the cache first.
