Large screen (30") monitor question

A while back I posted looking for large-screen (30") monitor recommendations, and based on the available information, the NEC LCD3090WQXI looked to have the best bang for the buck.

It's taken a bit longer than I originally planned, however the time's come and I'm going to be pulling the trigger in the next month or so, and I was wondering if anything has changed in the meantime - namely if any new models have been released that I should consider?

A lot of us at SmugMug have dual Dell 3007s 30 inchers - love 'em. They've been awesome for me now for 3 years.

Cool! Have you tried / compared it with any of the other big screens out there?

AFAIK, the Dell screens are using same matrix as apple, so they are very much equal.

NEC is going to release a PA301W model this year that will replace the LCD3090, maintaining its 16:10 2560x1600 resolution.

If you want to know more about its' features look to some of the smaller "PA" units from NEC. NEC has released the 24" PA241w and is about to release the 27" PA271w. They promoting a 10bit panel, 14bit 3D LUT, over a billion viewable colours from a palette of 4.3 trillion colours.

    ............

    The PA271w has a 27" 16:9 2560x1440 IPS type TFT LCD panel.

The 27" NEC uses the same (or very very similar) IPS type panel as the Apple 27" and new Dell 27" U2711. The Apple uses an LED backlight which, while good for energy consumption, may not be ideal for color gamut - there have been some reported issues that may be related to the LED. Both the Dell and NEC uses a traditional CCFL backlight.

Thanks for the pointers - it looks like the new 30" NEC is coming out in the fall, so I may go for the Dell's in the meantime.

They do, though I don't use them that way.
