output photos to a HD TV

Not sure if this is the right forum, but can someone suggest what the best way is output a smugmug slideshows in the highest quality via a PC to a 1080p HD TV. In other words, what hardware (video card, etc. ) is recommended?
I have tried using the svideo jack on my laptop, but the photo quality on the TV is very poor. I'm willing to dedicate a PC with a decent video card to this...

I think the easiest way to to the connection to the TV is with a PC/video card with an HDMI port that will do 1080p. One can buy laptops today that have an HDMI port built-in for this. Or you can get video cards for a desktop PC with an HDMI port.
