Got a call from a mom that I did baseball cards for last year asking to come down and take some shots of her sons teams this year. I love Youth baseball, go down to take pics of one Kid on one team and end up shooting all the kids on 4 teams. Here are a few of my favorites from the last game I shot. C&C always welcome and appreciated.

    Jeff,

What gear are you using? Your info is turned off on your gallery so I can't see exif info. You've got some OK shots, but most lack the punch that shot #7 above has. They all seem a bit on the soft side without good detail. Not sure what the reason is - but I looked at a few of the other shots. It's a balancing act where some shots are too loosely framed and the backgrounds are a bit distracting to others that are nice and tightly framed but none really have the punch which #7 above has. It may be not enough shutter speed or something else - can't tell. Take shot #6 above it - look at his face vs. shot 7. A lot softer and it's an easier shot for focus purposes than shot 7. Similarly shot 2 is pretty good but the batter's face in shot 1 is a bit softer. WHat shutter speeds were you shooting at in these specific shots? That might be it. You'll want over 1/1000 to be sure.

    John,

Thanks for the excellent feedback. I completely see what your talking about with the "pop" and the framing. I went back and enabled the camera info on my site to see what I was shooting at.

    The First 5 pics were shot with a rented Canon 50D and a rented 100-400 L f3.5-5.6.

    #1 - f5.6 - 1/1600 ISO 320 @ 300mm
    #2 - f5.6 - 1/1600 ISO 400 @ 320mm

The rest of the pictures I was shooting with my backup camera a Canon 30D and my 70-200 L f2.8 IS.

    #6 - f6.3 1/2000 ISO 400 @ 200mm
#7 - f5.6 1/2000 ISO 400 @ 200mm (this one was shot from down low through the fence with the sun to my back)

Not being a Sports photographer I was shooting in AV mode, Auto Servo

Thanks again for the feedback it is very much appreciated, Spending most of my time shooting weddings I don't get to shoot a lot of sports but I am really staring to enjoy the Little League stuff and need to improve. Parents love the action shots of the Kids which is something the leagues don't provide.
