Importing from HD to Aperture 3

Hi. I have some older images on an external hard drive that I'd like to import into Aperture. When I go through the import process and select that hard drive and the sub-folder with the pictures in it, I can't see any files at all (they're all RAW). Totally confused. Any ideas?

What kind of camera? Does Aperture support it?

    Numbering issue?

Absolutely. It's a Canon 40D that I've been using for 3 years now - all other photos in the library / hard drive were taken with the same camera.

Had a thought. Could it be the file numbering system? when I rolled over 10k photos, the camera went from imag_9999 to img_0001 again. ?? But even if Aperture thinks they're duplicates, wouldn't that apply only to 'new' images with the same numbers - and can I fix THAT before it becomes a problem?

Aperture will show you the images, even if it thinks they are duplicates, it just won't import them if you say not to import duplicates. What version of OS-X are you on?

I'm on Leopard 10.6.3 I can't even see the images at all through Aperture. But, if I open up Adobe Bridge I can see them. And, if I open up Elements 8 I can find and open the files.

I think 10.6.3 is the problem. I had similar oddness not long ago. Look for my post of roughly a week ago about Aperture problems for the solutions.

Interestingly, you actually commented in that thread that I'm referring to. :)

The "Aperture hung on me" thread? I tried doing the Command + Option when opening Aperture and did repair permissions; closed Aperture and re-did asking it to repair database. Closed Aperture and re-opened - still couldn't "see" the thumbnails. Sigh.ne_nau.gif

Might be a Finder issue then, and not an Aperture issue. Relaunch Finder, or restart the machine. I'm hoping we get a 10.6.4 soon.... :(

Did a shut down - re-start and, after all of the other adjustments, the re-start worked and I could see my pictures. Whew!
