Images not uploading successfully?

Trying to upload images - they are staying in the "Processing Image" state and someone from the other side of the world I am talking to has exactly the same problem... Been like this for an hour or so now.

Did the magic break something?

Cheers - N

Ditto, my site still has a bunch of photos in the "Processing" state. Frustrating!

I've emailed the helpdesk heroes and pointed them at this thread...

Let's see what their out of hours support is like :-)

Not being able to upload is a pretty bad one...

Photos are processing fine now. There's still some backlog, but we should be current again soon.

    Thanks again for your patience.

There still seems to be a problem. I've uploaded images using the Java uploader and the basic uploader. They upload but do not appear in the Gallery (nor does a placeholder image appear saying processing). I tried yesterday (05/15) and today (05/16).

Hi Dan, uploading is working normally, sitewide ... it's that you are trying to upload images > 12Mb in size. 12Mb is the limit for Power customers.

    Your upload log:
    http://www.smugmug.com/homepage/uploadlog.mg

Info on our size limits: http://smugmug.com/help/upload-photos

Holler if you need more help, thanks!

Andy, this seems to happen regularly to users, particularly those who buy a new high resolution camera or make panos. Is there some reason that the uploader itself doesn't tell the user that the images are too large? That would save every one of these support issues and user's would be informed directly by the software what the issue is rather than spending a significant amount of time wondering why their images don't appear.

Yes there is. I don't recall the exact reason, it's performance related though.

It's a solvable problem. All the uploader would have to do is to first inquire what the limits are for this user when it first contacts Smugmug (one web request) and then check the selected files versus those limits. Certainly, it's development work, but it is a solvable problem if you decide you want to fix it.

    Hello John,

Sorcery has already been made aware of it and it's been decided that it's not included.

Of course it -can- be done, but our guys have reasons. I'm sorry.
