Locked Galleries open to public!?!?!

I've got a ton of family and friends galleries with passwords on them (locked). I just did a google search and found a site (http://picpoke.com/) that has pics from my locked galleries. When I click on the 'original site' link on the picpoke website it takes me to my 'locked' galleries without the need for a password. WOW!!!

You got in because you were already cookied. Try logging out, then go to the links in picpoke and see what happens.

Please link us to an example gallery, and also an example search on picpoke, so we can help further? Thanks.

BTW, I'm less worried about getting to the gallery than I am about my pics showing up on their site.

I just 'unlisted' my gallery and then relisted it. I didn't realize that no one would be able to see it (my family) if it's unlisted. That's the only change I've made. Otherwise, it's been password protected since I created it.

    waaaaaaaaaaaa?

very very weird. I even opened another browser (firefox, and safari), which I never use and still showed me.

Ok, ignore me for now. I'll figure this out.

My apologies (in advance) if it's not a sm issue

Ok. It's not my mac. I just tried another machine with which I've never logged into smugmug (or used) and it popped all pics on the site (http://picpoke.com/im/zy7b9z5) just fine.

So, it's definitely not 'locked' on smugmug as I thought it was (although it's password protected).

I want to help you :D But I've asked a few times now, please - the link to a gallery on your SmugMug site. Thanks.

sorry, I missed that. I thought you meant the link where the pics are showing up.

Here are all those galleries: nixage.smugmug.com/family
    specifically (one of them): nixage.smugmug.com/Family/20060617-Parents-40th

One thing you should do is to be sure and set SmugIslands to 'no' for those galleries (gallery settings). Or you can do it for your whole site. I still can't see any galleries of yours listed on PicPoke, sorry. Maybe you can give me a new link?

I'll do the smugisland for those galleries. As far as a new link. I did a search for my userid and my first name (nixage irfan) and that's what one of google's results was (first page).

So SmugIsland is only for the entire site? Definitely don't want to do that.

Plus, I'm still baffled why those pics are showing up.

FYI, password protected galleries will still allow linking directly to images (without the password). Who knows how the image URLs were discovered and got onto picpoke in the first place, but you can stop all linking to them by turning off external linking in the gallery (something you probably don't need on if it's password protected).

So this here is not true then? Since I had the galleries password protected and a search engine still found it.

It looks as if someone who had the password posted the image URL somewhere, and the search engine found the image URL on that page.

I don't think so. Only about 3 or 4 people have the password and the URL links directly to my smugmug page (original link). Plus it wouldn't explain why a password was still not needed to get into the gallery. Only having the URL doesn't negate needing the password.

For what it's worth, after removing external linking and hello world, they are showing up as broken links on picpoke. I'm still ticked about this since the pics were out there for a few years although I thought they were 'locked' as smugmug tells you they are.

As John said above, the password is needed to access the gallery URL. It is not needed to access the image URL. In order to prevent people from accessing the image URL from outside the gallery, then you need to set External Links = OFF

If that's the case then it's kind of (if not very) misleading when password protecting a gallery. You'd think everything is password protected within the gallery.

I've never understood this either. Why are direct links allowed to the images in a password protected gallery? Shouldn't the password always be required for any access to the gallery? Isn't that what "password protected" means?
