Canon 400d or 10d?

Hi,

i currently have a 400d. A friend is wanting to trade his 10d. He wants £150 for it.

I realise the 400d has 10Mp, the 10D only 6.3. Other than that, what is the difference? Would it be worth getting the 10D (It is unlikely I could have both cameras), or is the 400d newer and better?

Any thoughts would be welcome.

The Canon 10D was announced Mar 31, 2003. Your 400D/XTi was announced Oct 14, 2006. The 10D has better build and (potentially) more durability, but the difference in age probably has reduced the useful remaining longevity of the 10D. The 10D accepts only the full-frame EF lenses, while your 400D camera accepts both EF and EF-S (crop) series lenses. The 10D uses an original "Digic" processor while the 400D uses a more advanced Digic II processor. The 10D does have an ISO 3200, but I suspect that if you push the 400D, ISO 1600 exposure and shoot RAW you could attain a similar if not better image in post-processing.

The 400D has a deeper shot buffer and the same 3 fps. Both have 1/200th flash sync. The 400D has a larger LCD.

I'm not thinking this is an upgrade consideration by and large. (At least not for you.)

If you have the 400D...I can't think of a single reason I'd go (in my opinion) *back* to the 10D. Save your money for better lenses or a future body upgrade.
