I had the opportunity to go view the Space Shuttle launch this past Friday, from the NASA Causeway (approx. 7 miles from launch pad). This is the closest viewing spot for the public (unless you're an employee, etc.) I was using my 100-400 lens for these. Let me know what you think.

Wow, very interesting set, thanks for sharing with us. Number 2 is my favourite, great timing. How close were you able to shoot from?

These were taken from the NASA causeway, which is around 7 miles away from the launch pad.

    Great opportunity
Great opportunity, and some great shots.

You can't exactly get a reshoot on these either :(

Good thing they turned out well.

No kidding! It's so nerve racking, because we had to get there for the security gate at 7 am, and the launch wasn't until 2:20 pm. It's all that sitting around, anticipating.... then once it launches, you have all of about 5-10 seconds to get the closer shots of liftoff. Then only maybe another 10-15 seconds for the shots as it races up into the sky. Then it's all over.

Needless to say, you better be ready to fire away when those main engines start, and don't stop until it's way up in the air.
