I had the opportunity to shoot on the track during an SMUSA school event and afternoon practice last Friday (5/14/10) preceding the Infineon Moto Jam Fest (or whatever the name was!). I haven't really gotten to shoot relatively fast moving subjects this close and this was great practice!

Here's a few images of some racers that I shot:

Nice I really like the angle on #2. I'm a bit confused as to why all of these guys are wearing leathers. I used to do track days on my R1 and they wouldn't let you out on the track without leathers.

    Very nice .

That's on the cart track (separate from road track) and security is lower than track days (that could be why)

@Erbeman: Since supermoto has roots in both street AND MX, a lot of riders from the MX side don't traditionally wear the heavier leather gear. Yea, in the 70's there were guys wearing leathers on the dirt but that faded off.

The pants worn by the guy in #2 are supermoto specific that look just like MX pants but have leather panels in the butt and knees. Most of the guys wearing MX jerseys are also wearing beefy chest protectors with armor that covers the joints.

Supermoto speeds are just a little lower than what you used to see on your R1, too... mwink.gif

    Thanks for the comments, guys!

heh... the guy holding up 4 fingers is a case of mistaken identity. I look a little like another Joe that shoots regularly out at the track and his company name has the number 4 in it. Guys throw the 4 at him while he shoots... rolleyes1.gif
